What not to flush

April 7, 2020

This is why you should not flush ear buds down the toilet.

blocked drain with wipes
This was a blockage we where called to in Glengormley. It consisted of cotton buds and baby wipes all tangled together forming a ball that blocked the drain. A blockage like this takes a lot of time to clear with a high pressure jetting machine. The situation was not helped as the home owner tried to clear it with drain rods, but all he done was compact the wipes and cotton buds into a tight ball.
If you have flushed wipes or anything that is not PEE, POO or TOILET PAPER down the toilet it my work out cheaper to get a professional out to clear the blockage.

NI Water are currently undertaking a massive project on the Dublin Road, Belfast, clearing Fat, Oil and Grease (FOG) that has built up from locals pouring fat into the sewers rather than using grease traps and binning it. Gavin McCready, Networks Sewerage Manager explains, “The Dublin road houses a number of fast food outlets, therefore the problem of FOG in the sewers is significant in this area. While most businesses use grease traps and bin their waste correctly, those that don’t are contributing to a massive fatberg in the sewers around the area. Our team has been on the site, working over a number of Sunday mornings, clearing the fat that has solidified. This is labour intensive work that can only be done early in the morning before the traffic builds up.
